“The roof of Africa”

The Umbwe Route is one of the least used routes on Kilimanjaro. Distance-wise, it is significantly shorter than the other routes whilst still allowing for a decent amount of acclimatization time. Generally, distances covered at altitude are shorter, thus avoiding much of the crowding which plagues other routes during the high season. Though it is not a technical climb, it is, nevertheless, a very steep ascent.
