This immense sanctuary covered 50,000 km2 and is relatively undisturbed by human impact. The park has a variety of vegetation zones, ranging from dense thickets to open wooded grasslands.

Selous is another classic dry season National Park, The later in the season you travel the game viewing getting progressively better. Mid May to December is the best time of year for the greatest overall concentration of game.

Most days are full of sunshine in the Dry season. Afternoon temperatures are usually around 29°C/84°F. Nighttime temperatures drop to about 18°C/64°F.
