Selous is the biggest wildlife conservancy area in all of Africa, it contains some of the world’s largest number of animal populations like elephants, black rhinos, cheetahs and giraffes.

The Rufiji River is the lifeline of the reserve creating wetlands, swamps, woody grasslands and miombo woodlands. Take a boat safari along the crocodile-infested waters or search for some of the last remaining wild dogs and black rhinos on the planet.

This immense sanctuary covered 50,000 km2 and is relatively undisturbed by human impact. The park has a variety of vegetation zones, ranging from dense thickets to open wooded grasslands.

Selous is another classic dry season National Park, The later in the season you travel the game viewing getting progressively better. Mid May to December is the best time of year for the greatest overall concentration of game.

Most days are full of sunshine in the Dry season. Afternoon temperatures are usually around 29°C/84°F. Nighttime temperatures drop to about 18°C/64°F.

The end of October might see the first rains of the Wet season. As the dust settles, the rains will come as a relief after a long period of dry weather.

November is the beginning of the Wet season, although the exact start is hard to predict. Rainfall tends to be occasional and short (mostly in the afternoon) and probably won't hinder your safari.
